Sale of decoration items for sacrificial animals increases

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd September, 2016) : With Eidul Azha nearing fast, the sale of decoration items for sacrificial animals is gaining momentum in the provincial capital. Traditional decoration pieces are brought from cities like Multan, Sahiwal, Kasur and interior Sindh to Lahore and are available at stalls in and around cattle markets.

"I have been selling 'animal jewellery' for the past 10 years. Every year with the start of 'Eidul Azha season', I come to the provincial capital with a few friends who are animal vendors. We set up our stalls together," Tanveer tells APP.

Naeem, a citizen, says, "It is a different kind of festival because of the feast of sacrifice. Gone are the days when Eid was just wearing good and new clothes. Today even sacrificial animals are also decorated with specila items.

" The decoration items are bright, attractive and in shining colours, and especially designed for goats, sheep, cattle and camels.

A, ordinary person may not differentiate, but there is difference between the 'jewellery' for cows and sheep. prices may be a little higher but people purchase these items, said Intezar Ahmad, who came from Multan to sell animal jewellery in the city.

Ibrar, another vendor said that they set up their stalls close to the cattle markets to attract the owners of sacrificial animals. In the beginning, the sale was slow, but now it is picking up while the Eid is only few days away.

"A pair of anklets for a goat sells for Rs 150 to Rs 300, whereas, cowbells start at Rs 150 and can go up to Rs 350. The most expensive items are garlands of beads, which can cost as much as Rs 500," he said.
