SC Adjourns Hearing Of PKLI Suo Motu Till 16th

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jan, 2019 ) :The Supreme Court (SC) Saturday adjourned hearing of a suo motu notice regarding irregularities in Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), till January 16.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the matter at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
During the proceedings, Director General Anti-Corruption Punjab Hussain Asghar appeared before the bench and submitted a report regarding irregularities committed in the PKLI. He submitted that serious violations of rules were committed in the PKLI and the consultants were hired on heavy fees. He submitted that project was scheduled to be completed last year but still it could not be completed.
However, Dr Saeed Akhtar's counsel argued that the report was based on forensic audit report which had many mistakes.
He sought time for filing response to anti-corruption report and pleaded with the court that no FIR should be registered.
Subsequently, the bench adjourned the matter till January 16 and directed respondents to file response to the report.
The court was also apprised during the proceedings that PKLI draft had been approved by the cabinet and it would be got approved during the current assembly session. The government would run the PKLI through a board after removing PKLI trust.
The court was further apprised that first paediatric liver transplant would be conducted by June in the institute.
