ISLAMABAD, Jul 19 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court on Thursday maintained the Lahore High Court (LHC) verdict allowing Sheikh Waqas Akram to contest the general election from the National Assembly constituency NA-115 Jhang.
A two-member SC bench comprising Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, dismissed an appeal filed by a voter of the NA-115 constituency, Mohammad Imran, challenging LHC decision which had the election tribunal's verdict in favour of Sheikh Waqas Akram.
It may be added that the returning officer concerned had rejected the nomination papers of Sheikh Waqas on the basis of fake academic credentials and concealment of assets.
However, the election tribunal ruled in his favour allowing him to contest the election.
During the course of proceedings, Justice Ijazul Ahsan observed that Akram's nomination papers did not contain any false declaration.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked that there was no court observation against the candidate's college degree.
