
SC Rejects Plea Seeking Stay On Election On Reserved LB Seats In Sindh

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Augst,2016) : The Supreme Court Monday rejected a plea seeking stay on election on reserved Local Bodies (LB) seats and also seeking stay for holding of municipal election on party basis. The division bench of the court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case filed by former Interior Minister Sindh Zulifqar Mirza under Article 184/3 against local government Act 2013 seeking stay on elections on specific seats of the province. The court also issued notices to Sindh Government, Election Commission of Paksitan and Attorney General for Pakistan and sought replies in one week. The bench remarked that if the court issued temporary order then the whole local bodies system would be affected.
During the course of proceedings, Salahuddin Ahmed counsel for Zulifqar Mirza told the court that the holding of election on reserved seats, chairman and deputy chairman for local bodies system on party basis was contradictory the basic human fundamental rights. He said that LB election have been reserved only for political parties. He pleaded the court to stay holding of oath taking ceremony for members elected on reserved seats. The court rejected the plea, issued notices to respondents in the case and adjourned hearing for one week.
