Score Of People Suffered From Malaria In Bajaur

BAJAUR AGENCY,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -5th Sep,2016) : Score of people have been suffering from malaria for last many days in Bajaur Agency as the disease on the rise in the region for the last four months, local people and health officials said on Monday.
They said that a large number of people living in different localities of the agency had affected from Malaria disease during the past several weeks. According to the local people, Salarzai, Nawagai, Mamond and Khar tehisl were the worst affected areas where hundreds of people have been affected from malaria.
The residents mentioned that majority of the affected were women, children and aged who were facing difficulties in receiving of proper treatment facilities. The people said that malaria disease had witnessed significantly increase in the region compared to previous year.
They claimed that up to three persons in each houses in several areas of the region had been affected from malaria during the current season. There was each family in our area had two or three affected people from malaria disease during the past several weeks, said Khan Zareen a resident of Salarzai area.
The people complained about lack of treatment facilities in the government run health centers, including the agency headquarters hospital Khar. The people also complained about absence of precautionary measures against malaria in the region by the health department and local administration.
According to them they didn’t see any anti-mosquito spray and others preventive measures to control malaria in the region during the current year. They expressed grave concern over the local health department for not taking efforts to protect the people from malaria disease.
When contacted, Agency Surgeon Dr Wazir Khan Safi confirmed the absence of any precautionary measures by the local health department to overcome malaria infection in the agency during the current year.
Talking to APP, the agency surgeon said that they had demanded to the directorate of health, Fata about anti-mosquito spray and others precautionary measures to control malaria disease in the agency several months ago, but they yet to provide any materials.
He told that provision of mosquito nets to the people was not the duty of local health department, saying that the department had never provided any mosquito nets to the people of agency. Answering to a question that who had provided free of cast mosquito nets to thousands of people and anti mosquito spray in the agency, Dr Safi said that these were provided by an non-governmental organization, not by health department.
