Seamless voice, broadband coverage to be provided to 694 kms Makran Coastal Highway

Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications on Tuesday introduced a project to provide seamless voice and broadband services to coastal highway of 694 kilometres

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Dec, 2018 ) :Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications on Tuesday introduced a project to provide seamless voice and broadband services to coastal highway of 694 kilometres.

For first time in Pakistan, national roaming is also being made available, contract of the project called, "Seamless Broadband Coverage from Hub to Jiwani: Makran Coastal Highway" worth Rs759 million, was signed by Universal Service Fund (USF) with Ufone at a ceremony held here.

Chief Executive Officer, USF, Rizwan Mustafa Mir and CEO Ufone, Rashid Khan signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations amid presence of Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Muhammad Naveed.

Under thee project, 58BTS towers will be installed in a contracted time frame of 18 months and to take this further, all major motorways and highways will be facilitated through seamless connectivity in future.

PTA chairman while addressing the ceremony said, "With constant dedication and devotion, we have achieved yet another milestone." He said the event marked one of the greatest landmarks achieved in field of telecom in Pakistan and would go a long way in taking developmental work being done by the Ministry to a greater level.

The PTA chairman said with such projects, Ministry for IT through USF would continue to work towards achieving mission of broadband penetration across the country to facilitate masses in rural areas.

Muhammad Naveed said in addition to broadband infrastructure, he expected USF to launch new e-services and m-services to facilitate digital lifestyle adoption for people of Pakistan.

CEO-USF, Rizwan Mustafa also gave an introduction of the project and informed that this was the first project under Next Generation-Broadband for Sustainable Development programme with focus on broadband coverage to allow for seamless operation of modern Apps.

Furthermore, this will be the first network in Pakistan where winning bidder will be required to enable national subscriber roaming for other consumers to benefit from the service.

On the occasion, Rashid Khan said, "Universal Service Fund was established to promote development of telecommunication services in un-served and under-served areas throughout length and breadth of the country." At Ufone we resonate same goal of providing telecommunication services to every Pakistani, he said and added the project has a special significance, as an important highway in Balochistan will be connected through broadband services under this initiative.

It is worth mentioning here that under this project, seamless voice and broadband services will be provided to the coastal highway of 694 kms and for first time in Pakistan national roaming is also being made available.

Senior officials of Ministry of IT, Ufone, USF and representatives of IT and Telecom companies were also present.
