Security Situation Improves In Merged Districts Of KP: Report

The overall security situation in the newly merged tribal districts (erstwhile FATA) has saw a significant improvement during the year 2018, due to the ongoing successful operation against terrorists and crackdown against militants by Pak Army in the region, says Annual Security Report issued by Fata Research Centre on Tuesday
The report noted a total 127 terrorist incidents in 2018, 63 terrorist attacks (50 percent) targeted the security forces while 58 attacks (45 percent) were directed against civilians.
The violent incidents of both terrorism and counter-terrorism, resulted in a total of 366 casualties 152 killed and 214 injured in all the KP Tribal districts, marking a significant decrease of 70 percent in overall casualties.
The reports further said that in terms of volatility, the present North Waziristan tribal district, where repatriation of internally displaced person (IDPs) was going on after full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb, remained the most turbulent one after 58 terrorism incidents were recorded in the district during the reporting year compared to 27 such incidents in the previous year.
The Bajaur tribal district stood second with 21 terrorist incidents, followed by Khyber and South Waziristan, where 18 and 16 terrorist incidents took place respectively.
Although only three incidents of terrorism were reported in Orakzai tribal district, however they remained more significant due to massive number of civilian casualties in these attacks.
Senior Security Analyst at FATA Research Centre Irfan ud Din has explained that the decline in terrorism incidents in the year 2018 was no doubt illustrates the effectiveness of military operations in weakening the operational capacity of terrorist groups.
He however said that some militants' organizations would surely try to strength their capacity, but the security forces would not let any outlets to carry out their anti peace activities in the region.
He expressed the hope that law and order situation in the tribal districts would see more improvement in the ongoing year compared to previous year.
He said that law and order situation in the tribal districts would further improve in the ongoing year following the effective and result oriented activities of security forces, adding the law and order situation would help to boost the socio-economic situation of the tribal districts.
