Seminar On 'Grass-root Entrepreneurship And Women Empowerment In Water Sector' Held At Mehran University Of Engineering And Technology (MUET) In Jamshoro

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Feb, 2018 ) :Najma Siddiqi, a US based social development expert, has said there are pockets of excellence and ponds of stagnation as far as development and women empowerment is concerned.
She said this while speaking in a seminar titled 'Grass-root Entrepreneurship and Women Empowerment in Water Sector' which was organized by US-Pakistan Center for Advances Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) in, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in Jamshoro on Friday.
She said the contribution of women could not be ignored in development of a society. "She indeed plays a more vital role in the daily life matters as compared to her male counterpart," Siddiqi contended.
She explained that there was a close relationship among woman, water and entrepreneurship. "But unfortunately women lag behind when it comes to decision and policy making for access to water," she lamented.
Siddiqi said women could become best entrepreneurs by trying themselves for their economic authority.
In some of the societies there were fixed roles for women because of societal compulsion, she added.She further said that unfortunately in our societies, people rather to listen but memories the thoughts of leaders which can help them to quote their thoughts rather to transformation of the society.Good Governance is a strategy from down to up not the vice versa, she concluded the seminar and responded the questions asked by the participants.
Zulfiqar Halepoto, the civil society activist, said women in Pakistan emphasized on the need of sensitizing women in order to help them play a diversified role in the society."They should be enabled to become successful entrepreneurs as the economic empowerment distinguished the social status in the society," he observed.
Project Director USPCAS-W MUET Dr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari and other experts also spoke.
