Senate body briefed on mechanism for connectivity with services of

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2017 ) : Senate standing committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication Thursday briefed by Federal board of Revenue (FBR) regarding establishment of mechanism for connectivity with services of mobile phone operators monitoring of withholding taxes.

The committee was convened by Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi while Senator Abdul Rehman Malik, Najma Hameed, Osman Saifullah Khan, Dr Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi and Naseema Ehsan also attended the committee.

The committee has given time of 3-month to resolve the issue of establishment of mechanism by FBR for connectivity with services of mobile phone operators for monitoring of withholding taxes. Nosheen Amber Member IT Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said, We have arranged multiple meetings to sought the issue.

She said, we should have a real time data every month but our ordinance says that 15 of next month following the tax payers is required to file withholding statements. Now it's legally not possible to single out Telco's so we have send it to policy wing to put this point in the coming budget as these kind of amendments can be made through parliament only.

We will be able to get this through if we are able to get this through from the parliament only than we can have real time data,according to the present law to get the refund payers has to file a return, she added.

FBR official Dr Amir Talpur told the committee that, the Section 165 of the ordinance prescribe certain rules of payments to a prescribed format monthly basis that whatever taxes have been deducted by any authority is to be filed periodically on monthly basis on a prescribed format in the end of the month.

Rehman Malik expressed reservation that FBR is applying a general tax on the Telcos and there is no rule such as which will cover the telcos. Chairman PTA told the committee that to resolve the issue of telecom company and franchise we have arranged the meeting on April 19 and hope that issue would be resolved amicably.

warid franchise owner told the committee that, their franchises had been terminated without any notification, in last meeting they had offered the package that was not for us but for employees and land lords.

In last meeting on our request they assured that within 5-6 days they will come back with new formula and proposals the franchise owners. The committee has called secretary of ministry of Interior and Defense in the next meeting to discuss the issue regarding suspension of mobile phone networks in Mohmand Agency, FATA and suspension of internet as well as ptcl service in the area.
