Senate body reviews progress of 100 small dam projects in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Dec, 2018 ) :Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reform Thursday briefed about the progress of project for building 100 small dams in Balochistan.

The meeting was informed that the previous governments mismanaged this project by building small dams at such a place where there was not water at all.

The meeting of the committee was held here under the chairmanship of Senator Dr Asad Ashraf.

So far two packages out of three packages of 100 small dam project had been completed, however, the third package could not be completed due to shortage of funds, the committee was informed.

Senator Mir Kabir Ahmed Shahi said if the government would not allocate Rs200 million for third package then it could not be built on time in 2019.

Senator Usman Kakar said in Qila Saifullah Nakhal dam was built which should be preserved by planting trees around the dam and ensuring clean water in the dam.

Officials from ministry of Planning told the committee that during previous year, an amount of Rs300 million were released for the 100 dam project and 45 percent of total work had already been completed.

The committee also expressed concerns over poor planning and directed the ministry to plan in such a way that the project should be competed on time.

The meeting was attended by Muhammad Talha Mehmood, Haji Momin Khan Afridi, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Usman Khan Kakar, and Mir Kabir.
