Senate body shows concern for PTCL pensioners

Senate standing committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication Monday expressed displeasure over delay of pension payment to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL)'s retired employees

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Nov, 2017 ) :Senate standing committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication Monday expressed displeasure over delay of pension payment to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL)'s retired employees.

The committee was met under the chairmanship of Senator Sahi Syed while Syed Shibli Faraz, Taj Muhammad Afridi, Najma Hameed and Dr. Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi also attended the meeting. The committee was briefed by Secretary IT Rizwan Bashir that, court has directed to resolve the dispute regarding the calculation formula for the pensioner of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), besides directing for resolving the calculation dispute and submit the amount in court.

Managing Director Pakistan Telecommunication Employees Truest (PTEP) told the committee that, according to law, board of the trustees have to take decision regarding the pay raise and pensioners.

He said from 1996 to 2010 the board approved annual pension increased as notified by the Government, in 2010 PPP government had increased 20 % pension from where dispute was started as for ptcl it was manageable.

So following the aspects PTCL has decided not to fellow pay raise pattern as for the company this liability was not affordable, he added. The committee has suggested the authority to do not take tax from the customers who spend less than Rs 500 or less on mobile cards.

Committee was also briefed regarding the progress made so far on Mechanism/Policy being devised by FBR and PTA regarding collection of taxes. Member FBR told the committee that, Federal Board of Revenue with the assistance of Pakistan Revenue Automation (Pvt) has been able to develop a software utility portal, all of four Telco�s are required to upload their monthly customer income tax (withholding tax) data.

He said, Telenor, mobilink and Ufone have uploaded their data , whereas zong is facing a number of technical issues in uploading the required data on the PRAL-utility portal which are in the process of being resolved by them.

The withholding income tax audit of other telcos would also be carried out after taking into account the outcome and inference drawn from Telenor Pakistan (Pvt) limited, he added.
