SFPR meeting held; Senators asked committee to improve foreign policy

The meeting of the Senate Forum for Policy Research (SFPR) was held here on Thursday at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) for a detailed discussion on the Foreign Policy of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jan, 2019 ) :The meeting of the Senate Forum for Policy Research (SFPR) was held here on Thursday at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) for a detailed discussion on the Foreign Policy of Pakistan.

The meeting was chaired by Senator Col (R) Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi and was attended by Senators (R) Seher Kamran, Senator (R) Ilyas Bilour, Senator Jehanzaib Khan Jamaldini, Nuzhat Amir Sadiq, Senator Mir Muhammad Naseer Mengal.

The Forum deliberated over Pakistan's friendly relations with its neighbouring, middle East as well as international community. Senators also discussed issue of making improvement in the foreign policy report and were of the view that there is need for further improvements in it adding that the report should be presented in the Senate after detailed and comprehensive discussion on it.

The Chairman of the Forum said Pakistan always wanted good relations with international community and the recent visits of Prime Minister Imran Khan abroad is part of this strategy.

He said that the Senate committee will not force the government regarding foreign policy issue but they can only give suggestions and recommendations in this regard. "There is always a need of improvement in governance" he added.

Senator (R) Seher Kamran said that foreign policy document is mostly in raw form and suggested that concerned staff of the committee should help make improvements in it before it will finally be presented in the Senate.

Senator (R) Ilyas Bilour stressed on the need to constitute a sub committee consisting of three Senators for further improvements in the report.

Senator Jehanzaib Khan Jamaldini emphasized that the committee should submit a comprehensive and detailed report of foreign policy before the Senate as there are many things which need proper attention in this regard.
