Significant rainfall reported in the capital: National Disaster Management Authority

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Thursday in daily Monsoon situation report said that significant rainfall has occurred in the federal capital while moderate rainfall with one or two heavy falls is expected over the upper parts of the country from 5 August 2018.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Aug, 2018 ) :National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Thursday in daily Monsoon situation report said that significant rainfall has occurred in the Federal capital while moderate rainfall with one or two heavy falls is expected over the upper parts of the country from 5 August 2018.

According to the report issued here, significant rainfall reported during last 24 hours includes Islamabad 56 mm.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast for next 24 hours predicts "Mainly dry weather expected over most parts of the country.

However isolated thunderstorm and rain is expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum and Chenab along with Kohat, Bannu, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and D.G.Khan Divisions." The report claimed said that no significant event was reported during last 24 hours whereas the following roads were blocked: Shimshal Valley Road at Phurjrik as rehabilitation work was in progress to restore the road and road to Batswat village, Tehsil Ishkoman, District Ghizer where district administration and other concerned departments were busy in re-establishment of the road.

NDMA, however in view of ongoing Monsoon spell and considering the weather forecast by PMD, has advised relevant stakeholders to remain on alert and ensure timely clearance of sewerage and drainage system in all major cities including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar.

It also insisted on issuing alert to people residing in or close to river plains and water courses and also raising awareness to public with regards to vacating dangerous buildings, remaining away from electric wires and avoid swimming during rain especially in underpasses.

NDMA recommending vulnerable population not to venture Nullahs crossing and likely flash flooding routes has suggested Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab only considering possibility of rains in D.G. Khan Division, vulnerable communities especially along hill torrents be sensitised for requisite precautionary measures.

The report added that weather outlook from 2 August to 8 August reveals moderate to heavy rainfall expected over the Upper Catchments of Rivers Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej from 5th August.

The weather for the last 24 hours remained hot and humid in most parts of the country, however, rain and thundershower occurred at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Malakand, Hazara Divisions and Islamabad.
