Sindh University Hold Convocation 2015

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2018 ) :The Sindh University, Jamshoro, organized academic convocation 2015 on Sunday, conferring around 750 degrees to the students. As many as 631 postgraduate and undergraduate degrees, 53 Doctor of Philosophy, 66 Master of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees were awarded on the occasion.
Besides, 18 candidates were decorated with the gold medals on account of clinching top ranks within their respective faculties and 82 with silver medals for standing first in their respective departments and institutes.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah congratulated all the recipients of degrees and medals and their proud parents. He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had a vision and a commitment to transform Pakistan into a modern nation state and that she realized that the dream would not materialize without providing quality higher education and empowering the youth.
Her mission was being carried forward by Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his sisters Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, he added.
Shah said an educated populace was necessary to compete in the present world which had made knowledge as a main driver of growth. The information and communication revolution had gained greater significance, he added.
The CM said he had noted with keen interest some problems being faced by Sindh University and highlighted by SU's Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat. "I leave this hall with the assurance that as provincial chief executive, I will contemplate these problems with a seriousness they deserve and will take them up with the concerned departments with a view to resolve them as early as possible", he assured.
The VC Burfat in his presidential remarks congratulated the graduates on their success and thanked the CM for gracing the occasion. He also expressed his deep gratitude to the CM for approving earlier grants of Rs.946 million for SU's Badin and Mirpurkhas campuses and a special grant of Rs.236 million for the varsity's recurring budget.
The VC also made special mention of Higher Education Commission (HEC) for granting Rs.1600 million to University of Sindh. VC Burfat informed that the university's 317 teachers out of total faculty of 650 had done PhD from the universities of most developed countries of the world.
He further apprised that the SU had so far awarded PhD degrees to more than 1,600 scholars while currently 3,600 M.Phil and PhD students were enrolled in the varsity. He told that the university was developing the gender, youth, recruitment, health, research and many other policies to develop sound and sustainable framework.
He said they were actively working on and were about to finalize quality policy of the University to win ISO certification. He congratulated Secretary Convocation Prof Dr Sarfaraz Hussain Solangi, all conveners and members of organization committee, faculty, officers and employees for their efforts to make the event successful.
The vice chancellors of MUET, LUMHS, Sindh Agriculture University, deans, faculty members, notable persons and parents also attended the convocation. APP/zmb/ali
