Six Appellate Election Tribunals Start Proceedings In KP

Six Appellate Tribunals (AT) of Peshawar High Court (PHC) have commenced proceedings in the province and started receiving appeals from the candidates against decisions of Returning Officers (ROs) to contest general election 2018, following the successful completion of scrutiny process of nomination papers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)
PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jun, 2018 ) :Six Appellate Tribunals (AT) of Peshawar High Court (PHC) have commenced proceedings in the province and started receiving appeals from the candidates against decisions of Returning Officers (ROs) to contest general election 2018, following the successful completion of scrutiny process of nomination papers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the appeals against ROs' decisions regarding acceptance and rejection of nomination papers of candidates can be filed by June 22 in the respective tribunals with a mandate to dispose of by June 27.
The Appellate Tribunal comprising Justice Syed Afsar Shah and Justice Musarat Hilal will dispose of appeals for national and provincial assembly seats of candidates of Peshawar region at principal seat of PHC.
Justice Lal Khan at Abbottabad bench will dispose of appeals for Hazara region, Justice Muhammad Ghazanfar at Mingora bench for Malakand region, Justice Abdul Shakoor for Bannu region and Justice Ejaz Anwar Khan at DI Khan region accordingly.
The candidates have started arrival to the tribunals for filing of appeals against ROs decisions in the province. The nomination papers of majority of candidates were accepted during scrutiny process in KP, which was completed on June 19.
Prominent among those whose nomination papers were accepted include former Chief Minister Punjab and PML-N President Mian Shehbaz Sharif from Swat, PTI Chief Imran Khan from Bannu, former CM KP Pervez Khattak from Nowshera, former CM KP and ANP KP President, Amir Haider Khan Hoti, Jamaat-e- Islami Amir, Sirajul Haq from Charsadda and Dir, JUI-F Central Ameer, Maulana Fazlur Rehman from DI Khan, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari from Malakand, Chairman Qumi Watan Party, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao from Charsadda, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan from Charsadda, former Federal Minister for Railways, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour from Peshawar, former Senator and JUIF leader, Ghulam Ali from Peshawar, PML-N KP President, Amir Muqam, son of KP Governor, Farhan Jhagra from Peshawar, Former Federal Minister and PPP leader, Arbab Alamgir Khan from Peshawar, former Town-I Nazim Shaukat Ali from Peshawar and Former Minister of State and PPP leader Asma Alamgir Khan from Peshawar.
However, the nomination papers of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf were also rejected for NA-1 Chitral.
Following completion of the scrutiny process, a total of 68 candidates left in the run for five national assembly seats of Peshawar including 23 candidates for NA 27, nine for NA-28, 13 for NA-29, 15 for NA 30 and 18 candidates for NA 31 Peshawar respectively.
Prominent among those whose nomination papers were accepted from NA 28 Peshawar include former Senator and JUI-F leader, Haji Ghulam Ali, former MNA and PTI leader Noor Alam Khan and PPP Asma ALamgir.On NA-28 Peshawar, former MNA Sabir Hussain Awan (MMA), former MNA Arbab Amir Ayub (PTI), Arbab Usman Khan and son of KP Governor Farhan Zafar Jhagra will try his luck.
PMLN KP President, Engr Amir Muqam, Shah Farman (PTI), Arbab Kamal, Arbab Alamgir and Asad Gulzar Khan are in the run for NA-29 Peshwar.
PPP leader and former Federal Minister, Arbab Alamgir Khan, Arbab Najeebullah Khan and Sher Ali are eying on NA 30 Peshawar whereas tough contest is expected between veteran politician and former Federal Minister Haji Ghulam Ahmed (ANP) and former Town-I Nazim Haji Shaukat Ali (PTI) on NA 31 Peshawar.
