Six Child Protection Units Being Set Up In Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Dec, 2018 ) :As many as six child protection units are being set up at divisional level in Balochistan while technical working group had been constituted to curb child abuse.
It was stated by Deputy Director Social Welfare Balochistan Department during a briefing to Senate Special Committee on the working model regarding the protection of children from abuse.
The Committee Convener Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Senators Sitara Ayaz, Mushtaq Ahmed, Muhammad Ali Said, UNICEF Representative Bushra Ajmal and other officials from Ministry of Human Rights were also present on the occasion.
To a question, the committee was told that 43 children were facing imprisonment in jails of Balochistan while data regarding orphan and children not going to schools was being collected.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said that incidents of smuggling children through Iran border was increasing day by day and it should be stopped through prompt action.
Senator Muhammad Ali Saif said that several children were smuggled through a truck few days before and the relevant law enforcement agencies should be asked about it.
The representative of Social Welfare Balochistan Department told that Child Protection Act 2016 was being followed and Provincial Commission for Child Protection had been established in that regard.
The meeting expressed displeasure over the absence of Minister for Human Rights and said it was unfortunate that to neglect the committees of the Parliament.
The meeting stressed to follow the existing laws enacted by the Parliament for child protection.
