Speakers term renewal of Tajik-Uzbek ties positive for region

The Centre for Global and Strategic Studies (CGSS) in collaboration with the embassies of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan organized a conference here on Thursday to discuss the future prospects of renewal of relations between the two central Asian states.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Oct, 2018 ) :The Centre for Global and Strategic Studies (CGSS) in collaboration with the embassies of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan organized a conference here on Thursday to discuss the future prospects of renewal of relations between the two central Asian states.

The conference "New Dimensions of Tajikistan-Uzbekistan Relations: Positive Impact on the Region" analyzed the thaw between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and noted that the growing relations between both the states would have a positive impact on the region.

Tajik Ambassador Sherali Jononov said the historical change in the bilateral relations with Uzbekistan started after the Summit in China 2018 and till then, projects including railway, tourist flights, transport and communication and energy sector had been launched.

He said a total of 27 bilateral cooperation agreements had been signed and trade between the two countries reached to half a billion.

He said the human resource from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan could also be helpful for Pakistan in the future. Uzbek Ambassador Furqat A Sidikov said Uzbekistan and Tajikistan were connected by common history and shared culture and added that the bilateral ties would be taken to new level for the sake of both nations.

He said mutual trade turnover was growing dynamically and trade agreements of worth more than $300 million were signed and implemented so far. Brigadier (retd) Akhtar Nawaz Janjua, Senior Member Advisory board CGSS said the current environment and example set by Tajikistan and Uzbekistan showed their strong desire to develop relations.

He said Pakistan was a huge market which could be tapped by the central Asian states. Senior Member Advisory Board CGSS Ashfaq Ahmed Gondal presented speech on "Significance of Regional Stability for the Prosperity of Central Asia" and stated that peace in Afghanistan was essential for peace, stability, prosperity and development in the region.

Center for Global and Strategic Studies President Major General (retd) Syed Khalid Amir Jaffery highlighted the efforts of CGSS to bring Pakistan and Central Asian Republics (car) especially Tajikistan and Uzbekistan together by series of meetings for mutual cooperation.
