SSGCL Gives 2128 Commercial, Industrial Connection Through RLNG

Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) has issued around 2,128 industrial, commercial and captive connections during the last 17 months after addition of Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) in the transmission network.
Keeping in view the demand of the industrial and commercial sectors, the government in April 21, 2017 had relaxed moratorium on new gas connections for industrial, commercial through RLNG, the officials of Ministry of the Petroleum told APP.
He said the SSGCL had given 293 industrial, 213 captive and 1622 commercial connections through RLNG till-date while more applications are in the process.
"Gas connections on Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) are being provided across the area of franchise of SNGPL to the industrial and commercial users irrespective of gas producing areas or otherwise.
" To a question he said that moratorium was put in place in 2011 due to shortage of natural gas in the country by the then government.
The official said in a recent meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum had also asked the ministry to refer the case to cabinet to lift moratorium on natural gas connections to industrial and commercial users.
The secretary of petroleum division had given assurance to the senate body for taking up the issue in the Federal cabinet.
He said the SNGPL had received about 2.4 million applications for the provision of domestic gas connections. During the last year, the SNGPL alone had provided 0.6 million connections while the OGRA had been requested to allow same number connections during the current year.
