Supreme Court Directs Govt To Appoint Chairman Of ETPB From Minority

Supreme Court on Thursday directed the federal government to appoint chairperson for the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) from the minority.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the directives while hearing another sou moto case about Thar Coal Power Plant.
During course of proceedings, the chief justice questioned the additional attorney general that for how long the ETPB has been working without a regular chairman.
AAG informed the bench that a meeting of the federal cabinet, being held in Islamabad and is expected to give the green signal for appointment of heads of state institutions.
The bench observed that head of the Board should be from minority adding that why not government appoints its MNA Dr.
Ramesh Kumar for the post of ETPB chairman.
Subsequently, the chief justice directed the additional attorney general to get approval for the appointment of ETPB chairman from the federal cabinet.
It may added that the trust, which manages religious properties and shrines of Hindus and Sikhs who migrated to India following the partition, has been without a chairman since Siddiqul Farooq, appointed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was declared disqualified by the top court in January this year.
Meanwhile while turning to the main case, AAG informed the bench that the report of Auditor General on TharCoal Power Project was expected to submit on December 4 and sought adjourned till then.
The bench while accepting the plea adjourned further hearing of the case till December 6.
