ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2018 ) :Supreme Court (SC) on Monday dismissed petition challenging the candidature of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) leader Anjum Akeel from NA-54.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed while dismissing the petition moved by Malik Amjad Mehmood remarked that electoral process will be derailed if candidates disqualified at this time.
The petitioner took the stance that Anjum Akeel was facing an on-going inquiry initiated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in 2011, however he did not qualify to contest elections.
The petitioner claimed that Aqeel, the candidate for NA-54 (Islamabad Capital Territory III), is a defaulter of multiple institutions.
Dismissing the appeal, the bench directed the petitioner to file the application after the general elections, 2018.
Meanwhile, the bench also dismissed petition moved by PTI's Mumtaz Ahmed Muharwi against independent candidate Fazl Mehmood from PP-240 .
