ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Mar, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday rejected senior anchorperson Dr Shahid Masood's reply in Zainab's rape and murder case. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case pertaining to allegations made by Masood regarding the rapist and murderer of the seven-year-old.
During the course of proceedings, Dr Shahid Masood regretted the statements he made in the programme as Additional Advocate General Punjab pointed out that tv shows were watched by millions. The chief justice remarked that the reply was unacceptable and time for pardon had passed.
He observed that Dr Shahid had made incorrect statements before the court. This was also contempt of court and there will be punishment as per law, he added.
Shah Khawar counsel for Shahid Masood told the bench that Masood was a renowned journalist and he spoke the truth.
The Additional Advocate General highlighted how investigation in Zainab's rape and murder case had been put on hold for 48 hours due to Shahid Masood's allegations. The chief justice remarked that the journalist should realise his mistake.
It was not about awarding punishment but about teaching him the law, he added. The court also appointed Advocate Faisal Siddiqui as amicus in the case and decided to proceed further against the senior anchorperson. The court directed Shahid Masood to submit a copy of his reply to attorney general and additional advocate general. The hearing was adjourned till March 12.
