ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court Tuesday rejected an appeal of the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) challenging Islamabad High Court's (IHC) February 19 order of upholding the accountability court's decision to release Capt (Retd) Muhammad Safdar on bail.

A three judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan heard NAB's appeal.

During the course of proceedings, NAB's counsel stated that the trial court had no authority to release arrested accused by taking sureties.

Safdar did not appear before the court voluntarily and was produced after arrest, but he was bailed out by the trial court against surety bonds of Rs 5 million, he added. The counsel said NAB approached the IHC which upheld the trial court's decision. The CJP observed that Capt (Retd) Safdar was not an absconder and was regularly appearing before the accountability court.
