Supreme Court Terms News About Recusal Of Justice Bandial Baseless

The Supreme Court on Tuesday termed a news aired by a section of media regarding recusal of Justice Umar Ata Bandial to be part of the special bench hearing plea challenging suspension of Sharif's sentence in the Avenfield property reference baseless.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Oct, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court on Tuesday termed a news aired by a section of media regarding recusal of Justice Umar Ata Bandial to be part of the special bench hearing plea challenging suspension of Sharif's sentence in the Avenfield property reference baseless.

The factual position was that Justice Bandial was not feeling well, hence the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) reconstituted the bench replacing him with Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel. Justice Bandial did not recuse to be the part of the special bench and the news was totally baseless, concocted and false, said an SC press release.

Talking serious notice of the matter, the CJP summoned chief executive officers (CEOs) of different news channels to clarify and explain the reasons for airing fake and false news items.

It may be added that the National Accountability Bureau has moved the Supreme Court challenging the suspension of sentence awarded to former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son -in-law Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar in the Avenfield corruption reference by the Islamabad High Court.
