The increasing use of ‘Ice’ among Pakistani students is alarming!

The drug peddlers supplying this drug motivate the students to buy it for this will increase their capabilities and memory.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th December, 2018) The number of drug addicts continue to increase in many universities of the country.

According to a report, the Pakistani students are most addicted to crystal meth, also called ‘ice’. The use of ice is on a rise in the educational institutions as more and more people are drawn to this drug.

Young people are more susceptible to drug use. Young people often talk about the "highs" but may not be aware of the many "lows". The widespread availability of drugs in Pakistan leaves the souls of the youth as lifeless as they could be.

The drug peddlers supplying this drug motivate the students to buy it for this will increase their capabilities and memory.

The addicts of ice remain active for a surprising duration of 10-12 hours and this why they have to later face several physical and mental issues.

Ice is so addictive that even if a person wants to quit, he is not able to. Therefore, students are advised not to use this drug merely for getting good grades or increasing their mental capacity.

The use of drugs had become quite common in the educational institutes of Islamabad last year. With attempts to curb the use of this drug, the drug peddlers also found new ways to attract people to buy it.

Other than ice, oxygen shots and party drugs are also very common among youth. Around 20-25 people can fulfil their addiction by buying one gram drugs for Rs 3500-4000.

The purchase of drugs or alcohol by young people is usually through dealers or agents, who are just a phone call away. Their numbers are easily exchanged from one person to another. The contact numbers are also widely distributed throughout hostels, hotels and other places that are generally hidden from the eyes of law enforcing agencies.

The growing trend of drug abuse in education institutions has posed a serious threat to the lives of students and majority of those students belong to elite class, having no issue of affordability.

The menace of drug addiction is badly affecting students and concerted efforts are needed in this regard with equal cooperation from educational institutes and families.

Moreover, the students should be engaged in healthy activities like sports, poster competitions and paintings to discourage the use of drugs. Effective prevention from drugs requires younger people to have a caring and nurturing environment. Punitive measures and mandatory drug testing mostly have the opposite effect.

Students are our future, and the whole nation is responsible for them.
