PESHAWAR, Jan 6 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Jan, 2017 ) : As many as 1,80,000 children under five years of age would be vaccinated during a three-day anti-polio campaign starting from Jan 16 in Kohat district.
This was decided during a high level meeting of the anti-polio committee presided over by Deputy Commissioner Akmal Khan Khattak in Kohat. National Staff Officer, Dr Sohaib Khattak told that a special anti polio campaign in 33 union councils of Kohat will begin on Jan 16 where a target of vaccination of 1,80,000 children was set.
To achieve the target, 630 mobile, 23 transit and three roaming teams would participate in the campaign. Special monitoring teams were also setup to supervise and look after the team's performance.
The Deputy Commissioner remarked that if the one polio case exists in the district the threat of this menace would be remained for other children as well. He said eradication of polio was a collective responsibility of the government as well as the whole society.
The DC has appealed people to bring their children to nearest hospitals and basic health units in case anti polio teams did not arrive at their homes. He said polio was a crippling disease that could only be eradicated through vaccination. Negligence on part of government officials in this regard will not be accepted, Kattak maintained. APP/fam/anm
