The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday paid tribute to the martyrs of the Babrra massacre

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Aug, 2024) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday paid tribute to the martyrs of the Babrra massacre.

The session, presided over by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati saw a government member Muhammad Sajjad recalling the events of August 12, 1948, at Babrra, where Khudai Khidmatgars were brutally killed.

He described it as a dark chapter in history, noting that these Khudai Khidmatgars, who had made significant sacrifices for Pakistan's independence, were mercilessly massacred.

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) member Ahmad Kundi stated that the Babrra massacre was not just a tragedy for Pashtuns but a national tragedy, in which 600 people were martyred.

He expressed regret that the government of the time had consistently attempted to suppress freedom of expression.

Other members of the assembly also remembered the Babrra massacre, condemning it as an assault on democracy and human rights.

During the session, the assembly reaffirmed its commitment to protecting members' right to speak and write freely, opposing any form of censorship on freedom of expression.

The session began with prayers for the departed soul of Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi's uncle and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arbab Nisar Ali Khan, who had recently passed away.
