Tuberculosis decreasing by 1.5% per year in country: Senate told

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Azam Khan Sawati on Friday told the Senate that incidence of Tuberculosis in the country is decreasing by 1.5% per year

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Apr, 2019 ) :Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Azam Khan Sawati on Friday told the Senate that incidence of Tuberculosis in the country is decreasing by 1.5% per year.

Replying to a question on the behalf of Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, he said TB Control Programme Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has registered 43603 TB patients for free of cost treatment with 95 per cent treatment success rate from January to December 2018.

Data for the current year is still in compilation process which will be available in January next year, he added.

To another question, the minister said there was a temporary shortage of anti-rabies vaccine in November and December last, due to quality issues in the leading manufacturing countries i.

e. China.

Rabies is a disease of third world country caused by dog bite; therefore, this vaccine is mainly manufactured in china and India.

After January next year, the supply have become available again and presently there is no shortage of ant-rabies vaccine.

Pakistan is itself rabies manufacturing country, NIH Islamabad has also started manufacturing and supplying rabies vaccine to all government hospitals.

It is expected that there will be no shortage of this vaccine due to local manufacturing as well as import of rabies vaccine from China and other countries.
