Two-day police training on human rights concludes

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -2nd Sep,2016) : A two-day training workshop on Human Rights, Anti-torture Practices and Motivational Techniques concluded here on Friday. Participants of the workshop from Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police were sensitized on fundamental human rights of detainees in police stations, inhumane torture practices, their harmful effects and motivational techniques for enhanced professional development.

The training sessions on International Human Rights Treaties and Conventions ratified by the Government of Pakistan, was conducted by Raja Kashif Mustafa, L.L.B and L.L.M Criminology and Former District Public Prosecutor.

Around thirty police officials attended the workshop, organized by SACH - Struggle for Change, a non-government organization, in collaboration with the British High Commission, Islamabad.

Executive Director SACH, Khalida Salimi, in her introductory speech, said police cops are rendering tireless services for protection of masses but unfortunately they are not fully trained and up-to-date with the obligations of international conventions and treaties for dealing with HR related offences.

Their lack of knowledge leads to failure in implementation as well as observance of these laws by the prime law enforcers. She said it is vision and mandate of their organization to raise awareness about human rights and eliminate torture and violence through capacity building of all relevant stakeholders.
