Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan Thursday said that two-tier local governments system would be introduced in Punjab to resolve the issues of people at local level
He said that basic challenge was to undertake maximum development works with the consultation of locals for which new concepts of village and neighborhood councils could play an important role.
The senior minister expressed these views while addressing the inter-provincial meeting on local governments in which local governments ministers from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Balochistan and senior officials from Sindh province were present.
Abdul Aleem Khan said that no local government system could be viable without assigning financial and administrative powers, adding that such powers would be delegated at village level in Punjab.
He said that about 30 per cent of the annual development programme would be allocated for local governments institutions in Punjab and every council would be authorised to start its own development project, he added.
The senior minister said that in 25,000 villages of Punjab, development would be started simultaneously.
