UAF VC Stresses Viable Solutions To Food Safety

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Jan, 2017 ) : Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan here Tuesday said that researchers should come up with viable solutions and technology to address the issues of food safety, public health, particularly milk and food contamination issues.

He was chairing a meeting of UAF Endowment Fund in which 12 research and technology transfer projects were approved. Dr Iqrar said that contamination of milk, fruits and vegetables was posing serious health hazards.

He said that researchers should come up with the methods and technologies to check contaminations. He said that the farming community was also facing serious challenges including low profitability, marketing issues, productivity and sustainability in the sector.

He said that the Punjab government was redesigning Punjab Agri Policy that would address the issues and ensure uplift and sustainability of the sector. He said that the university had developed a catalogue of 101 innovations, meant for uplifting the sector.

Chairman National Agriculture education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) Dr M Ehsan Tasneem stressed the need for developing technology for overcoming contaminations in food and milk at mass level. Progressive farmer Faisal Shah, Director General Endowment Fund Dr Jafar Jaskani, UAF Registrar Muhammad Husain and Treasurer Umer Saeed also spoke on the occasion.
