University Of Agriculture Faisalabad Declares 'Smoking Free Zone'; Violator To Be Fined Of Rs 2000

Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa Tuesday said the university had been declared as 'Smoking Free Zone' and strict action would be taken against violator besides imposing a fine of Rs 2000 on them
Addressing an anti-smoking MoU signing ceremony at UAF, he said that smoking was not only injurious to active smokers but also to passive smokers.
He said that smoking could cause mouth, throat and lungs cancer in addition to cardiac arrest and other heart diseases for the smokers.
Keeping dangerousness in view, the university administration decided to completely ban on smoking inside the university and declared it as 'Smoking Free Zone', he said and added that the decision would be implemented in its true spirit.
City Mayor Faisalabad Muhammad Razaq Malik said that government made legislation to control smoking especially at public places, government offices and public transport. Now a comprehensive strategy is being adopted to implement these laws,he added.
Later, a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) was also signed between UAF and National Health Services Regulation & Coordination (NHSRC).
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa and Deputy Director General Health NHSRC Dr Minhajus Siraj signed the MoU on behalf of their institutes to control the smoking under Tobacco Smoke Free Cities Project.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Faisalabad Ali Raza, Director Students' Affairs UAF Dr Shahbaz Talib Sahid and others were also present on the occasion.
