KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Nov, 2018 ) :A mass of cyclists wearing bright yellow, green and amber will hit the streets of one of Karachi's busiest student hubs on Sunday, to call on universities to shift gears on how they think about student life.

Over 225 students and teaching staff from universities across Karachi along with citizens belonging to cycling group, Critical Mass Karachi, will put the pedal to the metal as they zip through a route that starts at Aga Khan University and passes by the Karachi school of business and Leadership, Liaquat National Medical College and College of Nursing as well as Bahria University.

At three points on the route, cyclists will get off their saddles and switch on their megaphones to call on higher education stakeholders to "unlearn" how they think about student experience and to get moving on student concerns.

According to organisers of the event issues will be focused around Teaching and Learning with emphasis as why does not anyone ask students what and how they want to learn? Campus Life would be another major component under which attention of the authorities would be drawn as how academic and non-academic activities at universities be redesigned and encourage students to develop all aspects of their personality.

Gender Equity is also to be highlighted with deliberation as why is there a disparity in the number of women in leadership positions in higher education and why do so few female students pursue careers in mathematics and science.

"This bikeathon is about us riding for our futures," said one of the organisers of the event, Haider Saleem, a final year medical student at AKU.

"Besides raising our voices on these key issues, we are also extending an invitation to students across Pakistan to come to the Parwaaz conference and to drive change by engaging with those who shape their university life," he added.
