Unregistered Afghan refugees not to be repatriated forcibly till Nov 15: CM

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th August, 2016) : Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said the provincial government would not harass any unregistered Afghan refugee and they would not be forcibly repatriated till November 15, 2016. He said this after a meeting on Tuesday held in old Assembly building regarding the repatriation of Afghan refugees in a dignified way.

The meeting was chaired by Speaker Asad Qaiser. The meeting was attended by IGP Nasir Khan Durrani, Chief Commissioner Afghan Refugees Imran Zeb, Former Ambassador to Afghanistan Rustam Shah Mohmand, Senior Minister and leader of Jamat Islami Inayatullah Khan, Minister Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli of Qaumi Watan Party, Parliamentary Leader of ANP Sardar Hussain and others. Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that provincial government did not want the repatriation of Afghan refugees in a disgrace way.

He said that Afghan refugees were living in Pakistan for the last 35 years and they would be repatriated in a dignified way. He said that provincial government is in touch with Federal government and would abide by the decisions made by federal government after November 15 in this regard. He said that he is aware of the education and treatment of Afghanis in Pakistan but the federal government should make policy soon in this regard. The CM Khattak urged the Pakistan and Afghanistan governments to made decision which would prove fruitful for both neighboring countries in future.

The CM said that a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Rustam Shah Mohmand to compile recommendation, adding recommendations would be presented to the KP Assembly.
