VC SALU distributes cheques among students for outstanding projects

SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2025) Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Saturday celebrated academic excellence and innovation as Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk on Sunday distributed cheques among students from the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology for their exceptional Final Year Projects (FYPs).

The award-winning projects demonstrated exceptional innovation across multiple technological fields.

Anas and his team from Computer Science developed a pioneering "Real-Time Early Eye Disease Detection using Artificial Intelligence" system, which has the potential to transform preventive healthcare through early diagnosis. This AI-powered solution could significantly improve treatment outcomes for various ocular conditions.

Bushra Shaikh and her group, also Computer Science students, engineered the "INFERNO GUARD ROBOT", an intelligent robotic system designed for fire detection and emergency response. This innovative creation combines advanced sensors and automation to enhance safety measures in hazardous environments, potentially saving lives and property.

In the agricultural sector, Abdul Rafeh and his team presented "Cane2Scan: Revolutionizing Sugarcane Farming with UAV-Powered White Leaf Disease Detection Using Deep Learning Models". Their project integrates drone technology with sophisticated deep learning algorithms to detect plant diseases early, offering farmers a powerful tool to protect their crops and increase yields.

Muhammad Ali's team developed "Glide X Vision: Integrated Control System for Persons with Disabilities", an assistive technology breakthrough. This comprehensive system provides enhanced accessibility and independence for differently-abled individuals through innovative control mechanisms, demonstrating technology's potential to improve quality of life.

Sher Zaman and his Computer Science & IT group created an "IoT-Based Smart Agricultural Robot", showcasing how internet of Things technology can revolutionize farming practices. Their smart robot automates various agricultural processes, optimizing resource use and increasing efficiency in modern farming operations.

The financial awards were facilitated by IGNITE, which promotes technological innovation across Pakistan. The selected projects were chosen based on their innovation, feasibility, and potential societal impact.

The ceremony, held at the university’s main campus, was attended by faculty members, project supervisors, and students, marking a significant recognition of research and technological advancement.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yousuf Khushk congratulated the students and their supervisors for their dedication and innovative contributions. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting research, entrepreneurship, and industry-academia collaboration.

"These projects not only reflect academic excellence but also have the potential to address societal challenges through technology," said VC, he urged students to continue their efforts in research and innovation, contributing to national and global technological advancements.

He stressed the need for academic research to translate into practical, marketable solutions. Vice Chancellor also appreciated the role of IGNITE, the national technology fund, in supporting grassroots innovation.

Dr. Khushk concluded by highlighting the importance of commercializing these projects for public benefit and called for sustained efforts in research and development.
