Western papers condemned for misleading coverage of NZ tragedy

LAHORE- (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News- 16th March 2019) Social media users have condemned some Western newspapers for their misleading coverage to New Zealand mosques tragedy.

Aljazeera ran a story quoting different social media users who criticized some tabloid including The Mirror for portraying a different angle of the killers and made attempts to divert the attention of people from victims.

At least 49 people were killed and 40 others were injured in the twin attacks by Australian suspect Brenton Tarrant, 28, who allegedly shot dozens of worshippers in the New Zealand district of Christchurch.

Quoting the headline of Daily Mirror, a Known British columnist tweeted: “Labelling him an "angelic boy who grew into an evil far-right mass killer" British tabloid, the Daily Mirror, released a photo of Tarrant as a young boy and described him as "a likeable and dedicated personal trainer running free athletic programmes for kids".

British journalist and BBC presenter Shaimaa Khalil, according to Aljazeera, also criticized the headline and condemned the Daily Mail for the use of similar language, referring to Tarrant as the "ordinary white man" in its headline on Friday.
