
Win In World Junior C'ship To Bode Well For Pakistan: Secy PSF

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Augst,2016) : Secretary Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Group Captain Aamir Nawaz said on Thursday that Pakistan's win against Egypt in the final of World Team Junior Squash Championship would bode well for the future of squash in Pakistan.
Pakistan on Wednesday stunned favourites Egypt 2-1 in the final in Poland to win their sixth title and the first after 2008. Pakistan's Israr Ahmad came out on top against Saadeldin Abouaish in a hard-fought fixture, defeating him 3-0.
Abbas Shoukat overcame challenge from Marwan Tarek 3-1. However, Pakistan's Youssef Ibrahim suffered defeat against Ayaz Ahsan 3-1. "This is a fantastic achievement. This has been our goal for the past few years.
I'm sure the win will help cement a positive performance culture in the country," Aamir told APP. He said that the PSF under the guidance of its President, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman was making all-out efforts to uplift standard of squash in Pakistan adding that it was heartening to note that the federation's endeavours had started yielding results.
"It makes me proud to see that our squash players have once against started to deliver at the international level," he said. He said that on arrival back home, the winning team would be rewarded with cash prizes.
To a question, he said that Pakistan would soon start producing world champions and British Open Champions at the senior. "We've been ruling the world squash for several decades and the day is not far away when we'll regain our lost glory in the game," he maintained. Meanwhile, President PSF in a message felicitated Pakistan Junior team for bringing laurels to the country.
Expressing his happiness at the long-awaited title, he said that the entire nation was proud of this achievement.
