World Teachers Day marked : Glowing tribute paid to teachers

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Oct, 2016 ) : As part of its sincerest contribution and diligent efforts in the education sector across Pakistan, Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), along with its development partners, joined the teaching fraternity to celebrate the World Teachers Day, on Thursday at a hotel here.

The event hosted more than 50 teachers from across Sindh and Balochistan, including cities of Karachi, Hingol, Mattiari, and Sukkur, said a statement. The initiative of ITA, the Teachers Without Frontiers (TWF), funded by Dubai Cares, a Professional Development Program with an aim to pursue a social movement for teachers enabled teaching skills, was celebrated at the event with acknowledgement of TWF teacher fellows.

The teachers of TWF were awarded for their diligent effort of conducting workshops of more than 100 teachers each. These workshops focus on blended learning, 21st century skills, project based learning and ICT Skills.

The keynote speaker of the event, Abbas Hussain said our children are now headed towards 2030, and it is very important for our teachers to be prepared with the right tools of teaching. Our teachers must continue to learn and move forward to keep up with new age inspiration, he added.

The celebrations held a strategic dialogue on `Sustainable Development Goal no.4 Quality Education. The panelists include field experts from the education sector, Ameen Jan- Director EDequal inc., Mohsin Tejani - Director of The school of Writing, Usama Mustafa- Technology consultant, Enterprise and Partner Group, microsoft Pakistan, and Kashif Saleem - Manager Learning Technologies - Aga Khan Education Services, moderated by Mina Kidwai - Manager Communications at ITA.

The discussion reflected on the impact of technological advancement in our pedagogical and teaching methodologies. Provincial coordinator, ITA Mumtaz Pirzada said that teachers are the backbone of education sector and play vital role in developing the lives of children and technology embedded environment enhances the capacity inside classroom.

The chief guest of the event, Secretary of Education, Dr Fazlullah Pechuho addressed the gathering and applauded the teachers for their spirit of teaching and learning. He said that the education department of Sindh, is tremendously engaged in efforts towards improvement and educational reforms.

They will also embark upon initiatives for Teach for Volunteer Pakistan, to be offered to fresh graduates to overcome challenges and bridge the educational gaps in the country, he added. Panelists included Rana Hussain- Senior Advisor Quality Education at EU-SESSP, Aliya Shahid - Additional Secretary of Education, Inam Ali Shah - Program Manager RSU, and the session was moderated by Aamir Siddiqui Director Pakistan Reading Program.

Panelists expressed with concerns that with the ambitions of Agenda 2030 and the winds of change in education department, the teachers are set out to be the change agents. The day long ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Mumtaz Pirzada and Omer Fahim, Director Technology Integration at Idara-e-Taleem O Aagahi.

With a renewed spirit among all, the ceremony concluded in full swing for celebrations of International World Teachers Day. APP/ars/shb/rn
