Yousafzai Questions Timing Of Publication Of AGP's 'rudimentary Draft Audit Report'
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai on Saturday said the publication of a 'draft audit' report of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) highlighting alleged irregularities in the Billion Tree Tsunami Project (BTTP) was a conspiracy against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led governments in the province and at the Center.
Referring to media reports about the AGP's audit report, the minister questioned the timing of the release of the 'rudimentary draft report'. He himself remained a member of the Public Accounts Committee of KP Provincial Assembly and had never heard of publication of any draft audit report, he said talking to newsmen here.
"The draft reports are first thoroughly discussed, audit paras rectified accordingly and then the final reports published," he said, adding the draft report in question was published only to malign the PTI government.
The Forum, he said, reported that Pakistan hit its billion tree goal in August 2017 months ahead of schedule. "Now, the hills of the country's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are alive with newly planted saplings." The minister said the World Wildlife Fund, which carried out third-party monitoring of the Billion Tree Tsunami Project according to the standards of Ecological Society of America standards, also observed that transparency of the activity was ensured at every step of the process.
He said in view of the successful implementation of the Billion Tree Tsunami Project, the KP government had decided to plant one billion more trees with the help of the Federal Government, at the cost Rs27 billion.
