Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Thursday urged the nation to join Climate Action March to be held on September 20 across the country
Zartaj Gul in a video message received here said the country was facing adverse impact of climate change and was among the most vulnerable countries facing climate change risks.
"The nation should participate in the march to make the world leaders and the major contributors to environmental degradation and global warming realize their responsibility to help developing vulnerable countries mitigate the impacts of climate change," she added.
"We are going to organize the march before National Press Club after the jumma prayers," she mentioned.
The state minister added that there had been cyclones, tornadoes and floods in the world following abrupt patterns, however, in Pakistan the weather patterns were shifting with change in rain and floods events in the country.
"There are certain countries, corporations and global companies responsible for contributing towards climate change as it is rendering serious life and property to the masses facing disasters," she said.
Zartaj said it was necessary to understand the purpose of Climate Action March as thousands of people were dying in unexpected tsunami and floods caused due to climate change.
The massive floods and drought like situation were leaving huge populations under starvation, adding, it had also caused agricultural lands to turn into barren areas and deserts putting earth resources under serious pressure and threat, she added.
This march, she said, would call all the world leaders and responsible companies to do more as Pakistan being a developing country was doing more despite its economic restraints.
The Climate Action March is going to be held in all major cities across the country where environmentalists, civil society organizations, students and people from all walks of life would stage protest to highlight the country's vulnerability and increasing risks to the world due to climate change.
