Zoological Survey of Pakistan (ZSP) responsible to undertake periodic studies of protected areas

Zoological Survey of Pakistan (ZSP), Ministry of Climate Change is responsible to undertake periodic studies on biological aspect of the protected areas of the country.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Oct, 2018 ) :Zoological Survey of Pakistan (ZSP), Ministry of Climate Change is responsible to undertake periodic studies on biological aspect of the protected areas of the country.

Senior officials of Ministry of Climate Change told APP Pakistan has a comprehensive protected area network including 26 National parks, 93 wildlife sanctuaries and 96 game reserves.

They said that ZSP is working with objectives to set up and maintain standard zoological collection for reference and advise policy makers on all zoological matters.

The Zoological Survey of Pakistan also conduct research studies and impart training to create public awareness about (Fauna) conservation, management, export and import of Fauna.

They said that ZSP also obtain information on distribution, population dynamics and status of animal life of the country.

The officials said that the main functions of the ZSP included is to conduct regular surveys, research and publish information on distribution, population dynamics and status of fauna in Pakistan to advise Federal and provincial policy makers on wildlife diversity and conservation.

The officials said that ZSP had conducted studies on Machiara National Park Azad Jammu Kashmir, Ayubia National Park and Chumbi Surla Wildlife Sanctuaries Punjab.

"The ZSP also conducted survey on the threatened species including Blue bull and wooly flying squirrel, mid-winter waterfowl census of major wetland" they said.

The officials further said that ZSP also facilitate the implementation of laws on endangered species through reliable census and provide data for reporting to wildlife related conservations. The department is also working for the standard zoological collections to support scientific research by other organizations and training on conservation and survey techniques.

The department conduct surveys on the recommendations of the Ministry of Climate Change.
