Actor speaks up against fashion takeover at Cannes
Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th May, 2018) Pakistani actor Adnan Malik apparently does not like the fashion takeover at the Cannes Film Festival currently underway.
In his tweet on Friday, Malik asked, “When did Cannes stop being about films and start being about fashion?”
Speaking about the social media ‘assault’ about women’s clothing, the actor said, “The social media assault vis-à-vis what women are wearing is a bit much. Call me old fashioned but I want to know more about the films and the craft. Not a fan of this fashion takeover.”
Some people agreed to the actor while others were of the view that Cannes has always been about movies, fashion, brand endorsements and business.
Replying to one comment that read, “Stars posing for photographers are a part of Cannes folklore. You can find pictures as far back as 1979. Where there are stars, there is fashion.
When a brand sponsors an event they will promote their brand for Cannes its fashion. Also don’t you dress up for promotions of movies,” the actor said, “Sure. And it’s great when you have a film. But it’s just overkill when you are changing your outfit four times a day and don’t even have a film to promote. I’m all for fashion and glamour, but it seems like a social media junket not a film festival in the way that it’s covered.”
All eyes are on Cannes Film Festival that will continue till May 19. Celebrities from around the world gather at International Cannes Film Festival. This time around, Pakistani actress Mahira Khan will also been seen among Bollywood divas Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor along with other Hollywood celebrities at Cannes red carpet.
Cannes is getting huge media coverage with special attention to how celebrities are dressing up at the festival.
