Karachi Laughter Festival To Begin On Thursday At National Academy Of Performing Arts

A ten-day Karachi Laughter Festival will open here on Thursday evening at National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) with a series of comedy plays directed and performed by graduates and students of NAPA
The drama festival, first of the series of programmes planned for 2019 by NAPA is to mark its beginning with an act "Haye Mohabbat," directed by Uzma Sabeen.
The play revolving around two middle aged individuals in search of soul mates will be followed by "Biwi Hu to Apni," on Jan 13 and 14, under the directions of Aisha Hassan.
Aar Paar, scheduled for January 15 and 16, is an act directed by Rauf Afridi encompassing a madcap farce with a plot piled on misunderstandings, pratfalls and laughter.
Ghanchakar, under the direction of SM Jameel is to be staged on Jan 17 and 18 with Jungle Mein Mangal Bazar next in the list for Jan 19 and 20.
The last of the dramas being directed by Meesam Naqvi centres around hilarious attempts of housewives to counter inflationary tactics of supermarkets.
An evening of Commedia del'Arte, planned for Jan 12, is an improvised popular comedy staged in Italy during 16th to 18th century, being directed by Marco Luby features performance by young graduates of the Academy.
These acts, being staged every evening at 8 o'clock sharp on NAPA premises will be complimented by "NAPA Basement," featuring short comic series and stand-up comedy during the festival.
Director Zain Nazar's Dastan ki Aik Sham, an attempt to relive the culture of story reading through comic performance will be based on work of popular urdu writers; The Sequel - Don't Laugh I am Serious by directed by Faheem Azam; Fill Badi Full Masti by Hassan bin Shaheen and Soucho tou Sahi by Uzma Manzhar would be performed at 1800 hours.
Tickets for these are available online and can also be collected from NAPA and Agha Super Market.
