Nightingale of the Desert Reshma's death anniversary observed today

The 5th death anniversary of renowned folk singer Reshma, also known as Bulbule Sehra, was observed on Saturday (today).

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Nov, 2018 ) :The 5th death anniversary of renowned folk singer Reshma, also known as Bulbule Sehra, was observed on Saturday (today).

Born in May 1947 in village Loha, district Ratangarh, Charo in Indian state of Rajisthan in 1947 Reshma was born and raised in a gypsy family which influenced by pristine Islamic teaching had reverted to islam. The family moved to Pakistan after the division of Indo-Pakistan sub-continent.

Famed broadcaster Salim Gilani, who was a music producer at Radio Pakistan, introduced Reshma. He had also introduced the reputable singer Mehdi Hassan. Gilani, who rose to become the Director General of Radio Pakistan, accidently heard Reshma singing the Gypsy Girl in a street in Karachi, ptv news reported.

After passing the audition when Reshma sang she became an overnight singing sensation entrenched in deep classical roots of the locale. Radio Pakistan started broadcasting her songs in her silky voice that had desert's depth, jungle's pain, river's flow, and echo of old praying places.

Reshma also started singing for Pakistan Television when it was launched in 1960s. She sang songs for many Pakistani movies and her silky voice also crossed the border. Famous Indian film director Subhash Gai included one of her most popular song 'Lumbi judai" in one of his movies Hero, a song which remains still popular today.
