Rehmat Ajmal speaks her heart out on modeling profession and the stigmas attached to it

The model said that such statements take a toll on you but she now stands up for her choices.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th July, 2018) Budding model Rehmat Ajmal has spoken her heart out about the modeling profession and the stereotypes surrounding it.

Sharing a monochrome and a coloured picture from her recent bridal shoot on Instagram, the model shared her experience of working in the modeling industry and how people ‘warned’ her of its ills.

She started off the caption recalling the first few things people said to her when she joined this industry.

“You know models don’t really get married - Look around you, half of them are divorced and most of them are still single.” My father had to sit me down to explain to me how my career choice will make it harder for someone to accept me and I will have to look beyond the 7th sky to find a suitable match.
Someone who was very close to me asked me with worry, “how can you do so many of these bridal shoots? A girl’s wedding day is important; there will be no charm when you’re actually a bride someday” she wrote.

Commenting on these advises, the model said that these take a toll on you but she now stands up for her choices.

“When you live amongst people who say such things to you in passing, it takes a toll on you - It affected my work, my mood, the way I felt about myself and much more.

After a few years of my humble experience and a couple of significant realizations, I can now stand up for my choices,” she said.

“We need to realize that (a) words have the power to break or make - words can either be used to uplift others or to belittle them so choose wisely. (b) pointing fingers and attaching labels to professions will only take us back to the dark ages. Be progressive, be accepting & most importantly, be tolerant of things you don’t personally like,” she added.

Rehmat Ajmal then gave her reply to all the people who had earlier warned her of this profession.
“Today I have the answers for my loved ones too // no father, I will not have to go on a hunt to find someone who will accept me for what I do or who I am. Someone will find me. We will find each other and respect each other for whatever it is we do or will do // if & when I find someone who supports, respects and understands me, the charm will follow. Until then, I am enough for me.
Growing up, modeling was not my dream, it wasn’t even an option for most part but today, I feel empowered by this choice. I am thankful & I am proud,” she concluded.
