
Theater Play Unveiling Corrupt System Staged

Arturo Ui a theater play unveiling power, corrupt system, ambition and propaganda was staged here Friday by Theatre Wallay.
The latest production of Theater Wallay the play is the urdu version of "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui," Written by the legendary German playwright, Bertolt Brecht, this play is a parable for Hitler's rise to power, and is a powerful insight into the machinations of power, ambition, corruption and propaganda.
The play tells the story of a small-time gangster's rise to power.
Arturo Ui manipulates the broken, corrupt system of depression-hit USA to gain influence in Chicago.
With support from Heinrich-Boll Stiftung- a German Foundation, the play has been translated and this gangster story will be staged in Urdu.
Theatre Wallay is a non-commercial group of artists with a passion for theatre and literature.
Active in Islamabad since 2005, Theatre Wallay has put up many performances of plays hailing from world literature.
One of their original productions, the acclaimed "Daagh Daagh Ujala" (This Stained Dawn), toured the United States in 2015.
The group is also involved in "Theatre for Social Change" projects and works to promote the use of creative expression as a tool for empowerment and critical dialogue.
"To this end, we conduct regular workshops, readings, trainings and other activities in partnership with local and international organisations. We also conduct theatre education programmes and workshops with students of all ages. Since November 2016, our team has been running a not-for-profit cultural space and community centre," said the organizers.
The stage show aims at bringing quality event for entertainment and discourse to the twin cities.
