Ushna Shah says moral policies from Pakistani fans no longer affect her

Cheekh actress reacts to criticism over her clothing and style on photo-sharing app

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 9th, 2024) Pakistani actor Ushna Shah has responded to ongoing criticism about her clothing, emphasizing that it's not her husband who has concerns about her style, but rather her followers.

Now, Ushna has declared that she is "over it," and the 'moral policing' from her Pakistani audience no longer has an impact on her.

The Cheekh star has been repeatedly targeted by online trolls and subjected to continuous scrutiny for her fashion choices, a matter she has addressed multiple times.

In an Instagram story, Ushna shared, "A girl from a liberal background, who grew up in Canada and wore shorts with her friends, is now married to a white man from a similar background who doesn’t care if she shows her legs when they’re abroad."

She also touched on the controversy that Pakistani netizens stirred regarding her wedding dress and her dancing during the event.

In a direct response to her critics, the Balaa actor expressed regret over apologizing for her wedding attire, calling it "the biggest mistake" as it gave her critics more fuel to attack her over the same issue.

Ushna highlighted the hypocrisy of those who criticize her clothing while "drooling over" Bollywood dancers like Nargis Fakhri, who is also Pakistani and Muslim, yet harshly judge her for having a liberal upbringing that differs from theirs.

“I’m too old to cater to your hypocrisy. I choose to live my life and be happy,” she added.

Ushna’s red lehnga and choli at her wedding caused controversy in the country, with some perceiving it as promoting Indian culture. The backlash prompted her to apologize for 'hurting the sentiments' of her fans, and she eventually deactivated her account to take a break from the uproar.
