Yasir Hussain Clarifies His Trans Humour After Being Slammed On Social Media

Says he is only playing a character intended for humour and nothing else.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29th April, 2019) Actor and comedian Yasir Hussain had come under fire for his insensitive joke about transgender persons.

Yasir Hussain will be playing the role of a transgender in an upcoming drama ‘Help me Durdana’.

As Yasir posted pictures of his getup on social media, he was met with witty comments. However, he responded to them with some insensitive humour about transgender.

This came to the attention of Twitterati who had slammed the actor for his remarks.

Following the criticism, Yasir Hussain wrote a clarification note about misconceptions about his recent role.

Taking to Instagram, Yasir wrote, “The images that you have seen over social media of me wearing a Saree are for a project in which I am playing the role of my mother. I am not playing the role of a transgender and by no means do I ever want to disrespect a gender that I have immense regard for. Once the show is out you will be able to understand the character better and will know that my role has nothing to do with humiliating or mocking anyone.”

He said that we as public figures receive a lot of retaliation/negative comments and just because I chose to reply to a comment with a joke does not in any way mean that I have no respect for a certain gender.

“Other negative comments that we receive are never made a controversy out of so this also shouldn’t be. It is just a character intended for humour and nothing else. Hope this clears the doubts that some people have,” he wrote.

When Yasir had shared some pictures of his transgender getup, one follower had questioned his role by asking why dramas don’t hire actual transgender which was one potent question. Yasir, however, taking it way too lightly, replied with some insensitive remarks.

When another follower ridiculed Yasir, the actor responded to them by referring to them as transgender.

This was not the first time Yasir had made such insensitive remarks. Earlier, at Lux Style Awards, he had joked about child molestation that also did not go well with people. He had remarked about Ahsan Khan's character in Udaari as "itna khoobsoorat child molester, kaash main bhi bacha hota" at the award show.

Yasir Hussain was widely criticised on social media for these comments.
