Los Angeles, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Oct, 2017 ) :Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell, the only Major League Baseball player to kneel during the national anthem this season to protest racial injustice, has been arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a food delivery worker in Arizona.

According to Scottsdale, Arizona, police, officers went to Maxwell's home on Saturday night after getting a call about a person with a gun. A food delivery woman told police that Maxwell pointed the gun at her.

Maxwell, 26, was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. He was in custody awaiting an initial court appearance, police said. "We were disappointed to learn of the allegations," the Athletics said in a statement Sunday.

"We take this situation and ongoing investigation seriously. We are gathering information from the proper authorities and do not have further comment at this time." Maxwell hit .237 with three home runs and 22 runs batted in in 76 games this season.

He made his major league debut with the A's in 2016. In September he became the first MLB player to kneel during "The Star-Spangled Banner" in a show of solidarity with NFL players using the gesture to protest racial injustice. Last week he told gossip website TMZ he had been refused service by a restaurant in Alabama because of that demonstration -- a claim the restaurant denied.
