WASHINGTON, , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jul, 2017 ) - Tampa Bay Rays catcher Wilson Ramos needed six staples to close a cut on his head on Monday after he was hit on his helmet by a piece of a broken bat.
The frightening incident came in the top of the fifth, with the Baltimore Orioles' Ruben Tejada at the plate. Tejada swung at an inside fastball from Rays pitcher Blake Snell, his bat breaking as he grounded out to shortstop.
The rounded top end of the bat flew over Tejada's shoulder and hit Ramos on his helmet. After attention from trainers Ramos walked off the field. Ramos was an All-Star with the Washington Nationals last season, but his 2016 campaign was cut short by a torn knee ligament in late September.
The Rays signed him in the off-season and he took over as their starting catcher in June. Jesus Sucre came in for Ramos. The Orioles won the game 5-0.
