Los Angeles, Sept 21 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2018 ) :The National Hockey League's disciplinary officials slapped Montreal Canadiens player Max Domi with a five-game suspension on Thursday for a sucker punch on an unsuspecting Florida Panthers player.
The league said Domi would be suspended for the remainder of the pre-season after he bloodied defenceman Aaron Ekblad with a punch to the face in Wednesday's preseason game, which the Panthers won 5-2. Domi received a match penalty on the play.
The NHL announced Domi's discipline Thursday after a hearing on Wednesday's incident.
The incident took place in the third period of the contest as Domi tried to goad Ekblad into a fight. Domi then took off his right glove and punched the Panther player who dropped to the ice. Ekblad had to leave the game and did not return.
Ekblad went through tests after the game and cleared concussion protocol.
"We definitely won't forget about it," Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo said. "Bit of a gutless play. You don't do those types of things."
